On front: "John Joseph Montgomery on Montgomery Hill, just three-quarters of a mile east, John Joseph Montgomery, "Father of Aviation", died October 31, 1911 in a glider crash. In 1883 the first to fly successfully in a heavier-than-air craft, he was also the first to achieve controlled flight. Historical Landmark.
