In June 1960, Duffy-Mott purchased all of the processing equipment of the Pratt-Low Preserving Corporation from Thriftimart Inc. Pratt-Low was founded in 1905 in Santa Clara Valley as a packer of California fruits and vegetables.

The Rev. Aloysius V. Raggio of the University of Santa Clara was a beloved priest in the town of Santa Clara. He said masses at St. Clare's Church and also served as a chaplain at Agnew State Hospital. St. Clare's Gate was erected in his honor.
